Family Background:

 

Parents are retired Physics professors in Sichuan University (ranked top 9 in China in 2017).  She spent lots of her childhood in the physics lab, as well as listening to lots of scientific discussions.  So Joy has a strong interest in Physics, and has done lots of research on the use of electromagnetic devices for healing.

Educational Background:

 

Medical: Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. (Top 5 of TCM Universities) 

Education: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in EDCI at Education Department (both Master and Ph.D. programs)

Landscape Architecture: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Landscape Architecture Department (both Master and Ph.D. programs)

 

Childhood Living Environment:

 

Inside Sichuan University. There were physical walls surrounding the whole university.  Employees and their families lived inside the university.  The campus of Sichuan University was ranked one of the top 10 most beautiful campuses in China.  Right outside the wall, there is a famous historical park, rich with history and bamboos (over 800 different kinds).  In short, the environment was like living in a garden rich with knowledge, open minds, and fresh air.

Her parents graduated from Sichuan University in 1959, and worked there since then.  At that time, the school provided everything for its employees, including apartments, furniture, etc.  Chengdu, the city where Sichuan University located, has 2300 years of history, and it is the only city in China that has never changed its name in its history. It's famous for its rich culture, history, food, and the Panda Research Institute.

 

Current Living Environment:

 

Blacksburg, VA, where Virginia Tech is located.  The Virginia Tech campus is beautiful (ranked within top 20 in the United States) and Blacksbsurg was ranked several times as one of the best living places in the United States.

 

The living environments, which are close to nature, have greatly influenced both Joy's healing philosophy, and landscape architecture design, and drawings.

Now, Joy lives with her husband who is a faculty at Virginia Tech and their child together.
